Windsor, Co. has a proud history that spans 121 years. Its original settlers were of German-Russian descent and came to work in the surrounding sugar beet fields. The town's first industry was a flourmill and in 1903, a sugar beet processing plant was established. The plant eventually became part of the Great Western Sugar Company. The sugar beet plant was responsible for a majority of Windsor's early growth and employed a large percentage of the local labor force until it closed in 1967. One notable event for Windsor was being the first town in Weld County to have a paved street. The streets in the older part of Windsor are much wider when compared to the roadways of many towns developed in the same era. Local lore has it that the extra wide streets were built so that the beet wagons traveling to and from the sugar factory could turn around more easily.

Town Known For: While agriculture has traditionally formed the basis of life in this community, Windsor has recently seen an infusion of contemporary businesses. The quiet downtown now features an upscale restaurant, a few modern boutiques, and a coffeehouse. In addition, the community is renovating the old flour mill, a prime example of how the town is making old new again.

Nearby recreational facilities include Windsor Lake, Timnath Reservoir, the Cache la Poudre River, and Boyd Lake State Park. Activities in these areas include fishing, hiking, camping, boating, and bird watching, among other pursuits.
